Much was made of Smith’s move to take over defensive play calling in the offseason, but the change has had little impact on the Bears’ defensive performance. Chicago ranks 15th in total defense, and 21st in scoring defense. Smith will have his hands full coming up with a game plan to stop Green Bay’s sixth-ranked offense.
The Packers’ veteran cornerback excels at capitalizing on opposing quarterbacks’ mistakes, and Cutler has been especially error-prone with a league-leading 20 interceptions. When Woodson makes a play or two in the secondary, it tends to ignite Green Bay. Look for him to try and goad Cutler into a pick.
Coming into the season, Cutler was known as one of the league’s most cocksure players. He had no problem bragging about his talents, once even saying he had more arm strength than legend John Elway. A trying season in Chicago seems to have changed Cutler, however. He appears to be lacking confidence at times, and no longer displays the swagger that defined him in Denver.
