In his last outing against the Saints in 2007, Bulger had one of the best games of his career. He will need to play more like he did in that game (27 of 33) than he has in his past two outings (31 of 61) to give the Rams a chance at an upset.
The Saints have one of the NFL’s most versatile corps of running backs. Pierre Thomas is an agile back that can run inside or out, Mike Bell is a power rusher between the tackles and Reggie Bush is a change-of-pace runner that can bounce it outside for explosive plays or make catches in the passing game. It won’t be easy for the Rams’ 27th-ranked run defense to contain the Saints’ cadre of rushers.
New Orleans rallied from an early 14-point deficit to knock off rival Carolina, 30-20. … St. Louis was on a bye.
